Mea Culpa, Michael’s Fans

Oh my stars. How embarrassing is this? Here I come to my little blog turf in the universe ready to post my pretty jewelry pictures right after midnight. I’m actually thinking I’m a day ahead of the game, only to realize that I’ve completely screwed things up. Sorry about that, folks.

Well here without further ado are the pictures of my latest creation with the beautiful beads Lorelei and her friends picked out at Michael’s. I absolutely LOVE this palette, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to find all the same elements they did. My Micheal’s, for example, was out of the faceted shells and the lovely flat glass beads with the silver lining, so I made a few prudent substitutions. So many beautiful, dark shades of blue and grey — I immediately knew I wanted to create something with lots of layers.

And maybe because I was thinking about Lorelei and her wonderful new book she’s going to be working on, I decided to add a little black cord to the mix.  Let me say here and now I can’t wait for that book to come out because my vision for how this necklace should work out gave me serious fits. The weight difference between cord and metal is not to be underestimated, and try as I might I just couldn’t get the drape and layered effect to work right. I took the strands of this particular piece apart and reattached them in different combinations no less than a half dozen times, so I cannot wait to read what tricks and advice Lorelei et al have for dealing with such challenges.

That’s the way with seriously cool stuff though, isn’t it? It looks easy until you try it, and then it’s clear that part of the beauty and allure is that it’s far more difficult to make look effortless. Sort of like writing down the right blog challenge date in your calender. Oh wait. That’s just me.
